Hi all,

is there a way to reset the flash counter (programming counter) on a DME MSS70 (part 7 838 663, 5WK9482) from a Z4 M? It seem the counter has reached 12 times and the DME cannot be programmed
anymore with ISTA.

Thanks in advance!

Hi again, sorry for losing your time. I had the information from my client that they could not program the DME anymore, the limit of 12 was reached.
But it not the case; the DME can still be programmed 30 times but is in programming status 12. Every time they try to program it with ISTA/P, they
get the message 'Global Vehicle communication CoAPI.2084'. Something happened to this car, they had to replace the instrument cluster because it was
dead.

There is not much I can do with the tools (AH and Hextag)... Maybe I will try to see if it communicate in Boot mode...

looks like car is EWS model so can't do much with autohex. If you have VIN number please provide that. if you have cloning license in hextag you can try to write another flash to the ECU.

Hi, thank you for the answer. Yes it is a EWS car (Z4M 2006). I have the Hextag cloning license. Do you know where I can source a
flash file?
5UMDU93416LL93180 DME MSS70 5WK9482
HW 7 838 663
SW 7 838 887 = original software
SW 7 840 463 = New software that ISTA/P tried without success to program

Hi again, I can get the 3 files in BOOT mode (EX-EEPROM, EX-FLASH and P-Flash) and they are corrupted. The P-Flash content is FFFFFFF all the way to the end.
If I want to install an used DME, where are the ISN / SK, VIN adresses and on which files? Also where is the ISN/SK address on the EWS module? Is this a correct way to make it
work? Because the original files are corrupted I cannot make a clone.

Or is there a way to repair the files?

Thanks in advance!

Yes. So I can use it to read the ISN by ISN manager? Do you have a connection printout?

Hi, I have try to read the ISN on the MSS70 and it is not supported by the tool (AutoHex). Will it be possible to have this feature in the future?

you can read ISN from donor DME and write to CAS then do coding for DME to adapt VIN from CAS (all works can be done OBD itself)
if you want to do on bench connect both CAS and DME together then do same procedure. You need to connect key slot also to edit CAS ISN and probably ECU have short ISN so even after matching ISN you need to do sync also on car then only car will start.

Hi again and thank you for the support.

I still have the message 'This DME is not supported' while using ISN Manager for this MSS70. The car has not a CAS module but a EWS4.
If at least I could read the ISN on this DME, I would use the files from another vehicle to make the DME working an make it start....

I did use the 3 files from a similar vehicle and wrote them in this DME, now it is communicating but of course with DME-EWS faults.

I will talk to my client and suggest a new DME, I don't know anybody who has the original files for this particular VIN.

send us files from ecu read in hexprog , we will check if we can get ISN.

Hi again, the car is FIXED and can move on its own power!

It seem there is no OTP area in this ECU. Plugged the DME in the vehicle, start ISTA/P and programmed it flawlessly with the correct software, all is well now.
Don't know what's the exact difference in the Coupe and Convertible software for the DME though.

Thanks for the support!

even if there is a OTP area, BMW does not use it to write vehicle bound data to it
