I thought it was worthwhile posting this in case it saves somebody some trouble in the future.
I recently made a new key via option 2 - make key via key slot.
The process went well until the end when instructed to switch ignition on, I found i could not get ignition on with either original key or new key. I had a yellow warning displayed for steering lock.

The only thing needed to get the ignition to work properly again was to allow the vehicle to sleep (lock the car and wait until start/stop button illumination switches off).

Hopefully this helps others if they find themselves in this position.
