Can you share your thoughts about resetting working hours on MSD87.1 ? Do you believe that you are close on finding a solution via OBD or boot mode?

Hi All, yes, this would be a great solution to do this via OBD, or even boot mode.

Swapping chips is not the way to go, although a temporary fix, it's not ideal and the board can be damaged if it's not done properly.

Guys, would writing the Eeprom from the old DME/DDE to the replacement work? Would this solve the issue?

If the DME has the same power class with the one you are replacing there's no problem. If you want to change the power class you have to solder an eeprom from a DME that has the required power class.

Well yes, if you can't solder it's a problem. I rework SMD for a living so pulling eeproms is trivial. I seriously doubt there's a quicker solution out there currently. There's nothing temporary about it, I've done many many MSV80 since this trick was discovered and I've not had a single issue.

Yes Gbyleveldt, of course if you swap chips for a living, it will be easy for you, but just acknowledge that everyone else may not be as competent as you are and may well cause damage to their ECU, as no doubt countless people have if you google the topic.

Temporary fix meaning that it is the 'only fix' available right now, rather than an OBD, or Boot Mode option.

I hypnotize people for a living, easy for me, difficult for others, but i'm sure that you get my meaning.

You should never need to change power class in a CAS, provided the original CAS is used. If you change powerclass in CAS, you need to correct checksum when doing this and you must change the vehicle type code, else you'll never be able to code the CAS. Trust me, there's no good reason to change this in CAS unless you do a CAS swap (which should be a last resort)

Swapping the eeprom on the ecu is a proven method of sorting out the power class issue on the MSV80. I maintain a database of different ones that are localized for SA vehicles so I don't need the old ecu in order to swap an eeprom.

Actually here in Aus, our 125I uses the N52B30 engines detuned to 165kW, and the power class is at value 0
I threw in a 3.0I DME which is value 2 and I managed to change power class in CAS and from 165kW pushed to 197kW.

Hello members:

I have an X5 with MSV80 with DTC 2FA4 (Incorrect data record), the car star but does not have power.

ECU number is: BMW_X5_2008_MSV80_7583_568_000007602220_280350380
According with this post, it is related to Eeprom file problem.
Do any of you can check my DME Eeprom file and fix it ?
